  1. For my volunteering, I chose to work for 2 hours at the "Helping Hands" Coppell Community Gardens. The Coppell Community garden is made up of plots. Some of the garden plots are managed by individuals and others are worked on by the public. Every plot produces some type of food. Ninety percent of the grown food is donated to food banks while the other ten percent can be kept for personal use. The garden is open for volunteering Saturday mornings. On my trip to the garden, i was given multiple tasks to complete. I didn't work with any individual person but helped complete any tasks that needed to be done. I turned two piles of compost, re-sodded different plots, picked spinach and peppers, planted seeds in a new plot, and watered the garden. I also re soiled a few garden plots. After volunteering, I felt accomplished. I could have slept in on my Saturday morning after the game but instead I woke up early to help out at the garden. I also felt like what i was doing really helped out the environment and people in need

  2. This past week i choose to volunteer at the local Neighborhood Medical Care facility for 4 hours.Within in these hours I completed task such as filing, filling, out charts for patients, and assisting with drug test.During this time I found that not only is this job easier than it look but generousity and a helping attitude will always take you far. There was a lady that came in in a obvious bad mood, but with compliments and a smile she quickly came around. I love experience of helping others whether big or small a difference is a difference.

  3. For my community service i chose to help out some of the inner city kids in dallas. My baseball coach used to be involved in an organization called the heros, and it is basically an inner city baseball team that gives kids a chance to play a sport because their parents cant affort to pay for them to play on a club team. I got to work with the younger teams and teach them some of the tips and tricks i was taught by ex professional players. It was a really fun and cool experience because i got to hang out with kids who jumped at the chance to learn something new and not with the kids who always got what they wanted. It was also an amazing experience when their parents came up and thanked me for taking a few hours out of my day to help their children.

  4. I helped out at my church this last Sunday at FUMC Coppell. I ultimately helped ensure that all the youth had a great time during their time at church, and was involved in the music for the service. It is always great to start the day by making a difference, and Sunday morning is a great time for it! It is one of the few times a week that I have spare time to do any volunteer work and it was really rewarding. It was awesome to see how much the kids enjoyed the service, and to think that I helped make it happen. I could've slept in, but I toughed it out, woke up, and made a difference.

  5. Two Saturdays ago I spent most of my night helping our at my church with Loving Hands/ RESPIT Care. This organization is an opportunity for parents, with mentally or physically challenged kids, to drop their kids off at the church for a few hours on a Saturday night. While we (the volunteers) play with/ "babysit" the kids, the parents get a free night out. Loving Hands is once a month and i volunteer as often as I can. I really enjoy volunteering there because it is fun playing with the kids and the parents are so appreciative and thankful for the service. It also makes you really appreciate your good health.

  6. For my community service I chose to participate in Loving Hands Ministry at my church. We watch over mentally challenged kids while their parents go out for a couple hours. You are assigned to one of the kids and you play with them and entertain them until their parents come pick them up. It is one Saturday of every month for three hours. The parents of the children really appreciate it because for a lot of them it is the only time they get to go out. I love going to Loving Hands because the kids there are so much fun and it's great to let the parents have a break.

  7. For my community service, I volunteered at the Baylor Medical Center at Irving. I worked in the Surgery Department. I filed papers and I refilled the warmers with blankets and sterile water. I also got the opportunity to watch surgeries. I had a great time volunteering at Baylor, it gave me an insight of the medical field.

I'm in a club called Ecoppell and what we basically do is try to encourage people to use cloth bags instead of plastic bags. So, for two hours this weekend, my friends in the club and I went and posted signs about our club and to promote it on various stores in the Valley Ranch area. I was satisfied after we had finished because I was sure people were going to see the signs and would stop and reevaluate their environmental ethics.

  9. My girlscout troop (yes i am still a girlscout) did a focus on homlessness over the summer. The focus brought to light a lot of issues we all had never fully concidered. We decided as a troop to volenteer to serve a few meals at the Austin Street Shelter, a homeless shelter in Dallas. Serving the meals wasa life changing experiance. Many of the men, women, and chidren, who we served food too had jobs but recived such minimal pay that they could not afford a place to live. It was heartbreaking. But they were all greatfull that we were ther and it humbled us. It felt good to volenteer and we all agreed to go back several times, including this past weekend. Every time we go it changes us a little more and makes us more appreciative of what we have. Its an experiance thats easy to sign up for and one that i would highly recomend for anyone who finds they have free time on weekends an a desire to do somethng good.

  10. Every Saturday I help out at the Carrollton Health and Rehabilitation Center behind R.L. Turner High School. During my time there I am involved in helping out with the recreational activities, and I also help out with the resident store, which is located inside of the center. Another activity I am involved in is helping edit the monthly newsletter the seniors run and sharing my ideas while editing it. When I am socializing with the seniors I have learned that we share many political views and interests. For instance we all share a love for old westerns, sports and of course political issues that devalue the minorities’ opinion. I have also learned some important values and lessons from the seniors about life and how to be optimistically move forward with everything no matter how bad it looks. One lady has expressed, “I know you have heard this before, but you only life once and I mean it. You don’t realize it until you become as old as I am.” Though my many conversations I have found that I never knew that something as simple as talking could open up so many mediums into different conversations about so many different subjects. It amazes me how the power of friendship can be made so easily, yet something so precious can be so valuable.

  11. This past Saturday, i volunteered at the Austin City Street Shelter. We all met up at the school at 4 a.m. with our various food items like hard boiled eggs, fruit, sandwiches, and juice. We drove down to South Dallas where the shelter was located and set up all of our items that we later served to the homeless. I've always enjoyed these experiences because i love helping out others that are less fortunate than myself. Seeing the looks on their faces and hearing all the thanks that everyone gave was truly heartwarming. As great as it was to see the smiles on so many of their faces, it was also a very emotional experience. Seeing teens around my age and even children of about 2 years is very difficult to cope with. Knowing that young lives aren't receiving a well-balanced meal each day or even just the fact that they're living on the streets is awful. I know that i can't change the world by feeding the homeless at the shelter each month, but it's nice to know that i can at least help people out for a day.
