  1. On Feburary 12th, I participated in a 5k run in Veterans Park in Arlington called the Tortoise Trot. I chose to do the 5k run as my knowledge grade because I don't get the chance to run very often and felt like it was a good way to exercice. The day of the race, we woke up early and went to run, and the rest of the day I had a lot more energy than I do when I sleep in. The park had a sidewalk that was a one-mile loop, so we ran around the park about three times; it was right across the street from the church. The run was put on by the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington in hopes of raising money for their mission trip to Belize. The church pairs up each year with an organization called Word at Work in order to work with specific villages who need their help. Some of the mission work they have done in Belize includes building classrooms, teaching classes, teaching women to sew, helping hospital workers by teaching them CPR, and spending time with children in orphanages. The team of people that the church brings to Belize all have specific jobs that they do in order to teach the people in the village of Belize how to have a functioning community. The church chose to call their run the Tortoise Trot because their work in Belize has been "slow and steady", just like the tortoise from the old fable The Tortoise and the Hare.

  2. Ryan Meade- Joe Minden, Nate Hruby, and I decided to do a run at Mckinnish Park in Coppell texas. It was a run to raise money for an annual charity race for the american heart association. The American heart association is one of top organizations that helps to fund heart diesease studies and advancements. Its the same organization that sponosors relay for life each in copppell which us three participate in also. This run is for a worthy cause its one of the small events that helps this organization exist. The event itself was very well organized, the route we ran was a very scenic route, and every tried their hardest.

  3. Molly Hohfeler, Shannon Miller, Shannon Spaans, and I did a 5k at Veterans Park in Arlington. The run was to raise money for mission trips for the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington. They have had trouble raising enough money in the past, so this run was a great opportunity for them to raise money. This run was worth it because it is going towards people from that church travel to less fortunate areas to help them.

  4. Katherine Marshall, Shannon Miller, Molly Hohfeler and I participated in the Tortoise trot at Veterans Park in Arlington. The run helped to raise money for a mission trip to Beliz through the FIrst Presbyterian Church of Arlington. This year was the first year the race was held, and they are hoping to make it an annual event. The run was fun to participate in with friends and it was going to a good cause. Hopefully the money the raised through this run will help to fund the trip to Beliz so that the gospel can be spread and people can be helped.

  5. Ryan Meade, Joe Minden, and I participated in the 5k charity run that took place at Mckinnish Park in Coppell. The run was raising money for the American Heart Association and the proceeds from the entrance fee went to help promote research in the medical field, specifically referring to the heart and the diseases that affect it. We chose to do this run because it was close and really easy to sign up for. The run was also surprisingly well organized. When we arrived we were given an electronic chip to track our time, the route was well mapped out and easy to follow, and after the race there was water and some healthy food set up for the runners to consume. I felt great after doing this charity run because for one it goes to a charity organization that is working to promote medical research for the heart and also because I woke up early on a weekend morning to run and to support something that is positively affecting the world.

  6. Joe Minden- This past month on January 29th Nate, Ryan, and I ran a 5k at Mckinnish Park. The run was a small fundraising opportunity that raises money to finance an annual charity race for the American Heart Association. The American Heart Association not only is the leading organizations that helps fund research and advancements for heart diseases and malfunctions, but it is also the leading sponsor for the Relay For Life organization, which we also participate in every year. This run on the 29th was a worthy cause because it was a small opportunities that aids the American Heart Association exist and finance its events. The run was a neat experience. It was the first 5k that I have ever ran in, and it was cool to compete against all kinds of other people. It was an experience that makes me want to run in more 5ks to help support other causes.

  7. I ran in the Snowman Shuffle at White Rock Late which is an annual event put on by White Rock Racing. White Rock Racing is an organization that promotes running for people of all ages, sizes and skills. The organization uses the money it makes from the races in order to help maintain White Rock Lake. In addition, the money they earn helps them put on more events and provide, bibs, refreshments, shirts, chip timing and awards. This organization is really good because it is promoting a healthy lifestyle. White Rock Racing puts on a race nearly every weekend and provides races for all different types of categories so it is really friendly to any type of runner. In my opinion the event went well. It was a little chilly and raining during the race but the course was good, not too hilly and around the lake so it was pretty.

  8. Katherine Marshall, Shannon Spaans, Shannon Miller and I decided to do a fun run at Veterans Park in Arlington called the Tortoise Trot. This run was sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington because they were raising money for a mission trip to Belize. The people going to Belize were working with battered women at orphanages who needed medical supplies and other necessities. The race was not very big because it was a community wide event but it was fun to do and a great way to get exercise and help a great cause at the same time!

  9. Cate McMinn and I ran the Race for Wishes 5k today, March 26th, at Williams Square in Las Colinas. This event was raising money towards the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Here in North Texas, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted more than 4,500 wishes. By participating in this race, Cate and I were able to give our time and money to benefit children in this area. Before, during, and after the race, there was a community-like atmosphere with families-adults and children-all participating. I am very glad that we ran in this event and had a lot of fun!

  10. Aubrie Apple and I ran a 5K on March 26 to support the Make A Wish foundation. This foundation uses the money to grant kids who are sick and in need of some joy a wish. Being a part of that and witnessing some of the kids actually do the fun run was awesome. There were whole teams dedicated to specific individuals. The race was in Las Colinas, and it was a really cool community event. The experience was awesome, and there were a lot of people there. I love running, so it was the perfect was to get involved and enjoy doing something for someone else.
